Artist: Kendall

Kendall.jpg  smokeAndMirrorsred.jpg

SOLO EXHIBITION STARTING SUNDAY THE 2ND OF DECEMBER 2007 THROUGH TO SUNDAY 16TH OF DECEMBER 2007.

Travelling the globe, in a blaze of colour and character, with a style that is highly individualistic, Kendall is taking the art world by storm, with a technicoloured trail that leads back all the way to her home in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast.

Painting professionally for the past 14 years, Kendall decided to enter the export market 18 months ago and has travelled to South Korea, Singapore, Mumbai, Bangalore and New Delhi, exhibiting and painting live on location for Tourism Australia, Tourism Queensland and Austrade.

The sales of her artworks and her extreme art performance style so popular that she is already booked 12 months in advance, in the coming year she will be showcasing her works in Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, London and Tennessee with an action plan in place to take her homewares to the four corners of the globe.

From humble beginnings and after being told at school that 'no one makes money out of art', Kendall is managing to etch out a niche in the art scene selling hundreds of paintings a year and creating a homewares range that is housed in Australia by major retail chains such as Myer, David Jones and Pillowtalk.

Kendalls paintings are already housed in public and private collections worldwide, she has already signed with a number of galleries in Singapore and India but is hoping to spread her wings further in the international gallery scene in 07 / 08. When asked why people seem to love her artworks whether they be paintings or homewares, Kendall replies "I think my paintings have a feel good factor, people by them because they make them feel happy and alive!"

As for me I absolutely  love and am passionate about what I do, I'm always changing and evolving, I've always prided myself in being an innovator not an imitator.  I create a quality product at a reasonable price, I keep my work diverse so there something for everyone. I never set out to be Rembrandt and I never ever take myself too seriously!!

Artist: Michael White

michael in new mexico (2).jpg

Born 1967 and growing up in the Blue Mountains, Michael White began painting from a very early age. A fascination with his immediate bushland surroundings combined with an inclination to draw and paint started him on the artistic journey along which he continues.

As a self-taught painter, he has over many years developed a unique and sensitive language with colour. The majority of his landscape portrayals are painted from life, outside under natural light. These studies also form the basis of larger and at times abstracted works from the studio. Working this way parallels some of the elements within his work, between light and dark, warm and cool and intrinsically, the harmony between them. He tunes his colour, mixing extensively, not to a predetermined formula of what is known but rather, toward something that is for him to discover.....to learn from the humility of nature and the sun that shows it to us.....

Michael White has had twelve solo exhibitions and taken part in several group exhibitions during the past 15 years. His paintings hang in private collections throughout Australia as well as the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, France, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Dubai.

Artist Statement
I did not simply choose to be a painter. It probably started when my eyes began to focus, as far back as I remember, peering closely at the patterns in a leaf, the little creatures that inhabited my world and the clouds that passed above. The bush was my playground. The ancient layers of delicate colour and texture, the shapes of things organic and not, and the brittle, southern light that showed it, was and still is the basis for my work. Upon reflection, I suppose, rather than choosing to paint, I gave in to it.

I have for many years painted outdoors from life and in the moment. I do not like to think of my paintings as being from me but rather through me. I work alone and with as little as possible, a simple palette and very few utensils. The sun provides me with enough colour, its spectrum scattered and reflected. Even on a cloudy day or at night I try to see it, the whole spectrum, the rainbow in everything, varying infinitely by degrees.

There are many things about the process I do not understand and perhaps it is better this way. Time seems equally perplexing, for each passing day in our lives seems smaller in proportion to the number preceeding it. As time goes by we sometimes say that time goes by so fast. Perhaps by painting, I felt it could slow to a moment as like in a dream where the past, the present and the future can take place within the flutter of an eyelid. A day is a day no matter how many came before it or how many are yet to pass. At the centre is the day and it is a good day to paint.

Artist Statement:

I attribute most of my achievements to the fact that I always paint what I enjoy.  I never tire of admiring the simple or sometimes extremely complex beauty of natures gifts.  I enjoy the challenge of bringing this beauty to others in my floral and still life paintings.  I also love natures creatures and I love capturing that quirky look or docile expression and to bring my subjects alive.

Jan paints exclusively in pastel.  Pastels are a very permanent painting medium and all paintings are executed with top quality archival artists materials.

Congratulations to Jan who has taken out first prize in the Ekka Pastel Art Competition in Brisbane.

Artist: Michelle Pike

Michelle.jpg

Michelle Pike originates from Western Australian, however now resides on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Although having travelled and studied extensively world-wide, her artwork is now best known for capturing the colour and animation of the Australian lifestyle, landscape and of course, humour. Michelle is the artist with a story – drawing from both her own childhood experiences and that currently being played out by her two sons, her paintings are an endless source of entertainment and amusement to their audience. Michelle states that there are never any deep, underlying messages attached to her art – she simply sees herself as an ambassador to those appreciating the lighter side of life, promoting the ‘feel-good’ factor behind a good chuckle for all! As such, her passion for vibrant colours and the naive style with which she illustrates, further compliments her light-hearted approach to the canvas. So infectious is her humour, that Michelle has been sought by both major puzzle companies for the production of an Australian Artist puzzle series; and major publishing houses for the illustration of numerous children’s books (including recent work with author Andrew Daddo), where her versatility in both subject matter and medium, is an inspiration to any artist. Such is the demand and success of her artwork, both locally and internationally in the past 18 months, that Michelle has recently sacrificed her long-term corporate career as a Human Resources Management Consultant to concentrate her efforts wholly on her greatest love – art.

“On one hand I wish to reconcile my loves of the strong lines and simple, powerful design of Eastern Art, in particular Japanese woodblock prints and the Chinese Zen brush painters,
with the beautiful realism, play of light and shadow, and the sculptural sense of depth found in the work of the western Dutch and Italian masters.

On the other I want to express my respect for the strength and beauty of women, protest the distasteful way the female form is typically displayed in today's media, mourn the loss of romance in the modern era, and stamp out the generic nude, giving a sense of individuality to all my subjects.”

Artist: Jenni Kelly

Jenni was born in Kerang Victoria and lived and was educated in Bendigo where her interest in oil painting began viewing the great Australian masters at the Bendigo Regional Art Gallery thus starting a long life love affair of viewing galleries Australia wide. Her early works were in traditional oils depicting the subjects of the Gold Mining areas and continuing this style of painting for many years. After marriage and family with husbands work to areas such as Mackay, Isisford, Cardwell, Augathella and Clifton. While living in these isolated areas she continued to do some painting and was a member of The Flying Art School for many years travelling hundreds of kilometers to designated centers. Jenni is basically self taught and is constantly improving her skills by attending other artists workshops, e.g McGregor Summer Schools Toowoomba, Mitchell Summer School’s Bathurst and Clifton Art workshops regularly. Jenni is currently living in Murrumba Downs at North Brisbane. Jenni achieves a realistic expression in her creative freestyle painting leaving the viewer free to excise their own imagination. These paintings have an appealing sense of colour, freedom and movement with subjects close to nature. Jenni’ also a member of “Nature in the Raw” with works going in exhibitions all over Queensland and in 2004 the Bristol Zoo Gardens in U.K. Jenni’s work is continually on display at the White Patch Gallery on Bribie Island and at the Blue Dolphin Gallery at Mooloolaba. 21 Pieces of Jenni’s paintings are hanging throughout the Holy Spirit Hospital at Chermside Brisbane.

Artist: Darryl Trott

Biography - Darryl Trott (1942 - 2004)

The world has lost a wonderful person and it's greatest watercolour artist following Darryl's untimely death on the 9th June 2004 following a heart attack. Despite this tragic loss we are fortunate to have the legacy of his magnificent art with us forever.

Darryl Trott achieved a feel and flow with watercolour that no other medium comes close to. The Australian born artist was inspired from the very young age of six when he received his first set of watercolour paints for Christmas. From this early age he knew that his fingers and watercolour paint were a natural combination. But it was thirty years or more before his childhood love of flowers and art were brought to the surface by Ruth Tuck, a great Australian floral artist and teacher.
"At first I was painting landscapes, but it wasn't long before Ruth Tuck told me to concentrate on flowers," says Trott.

Following Ruth Tucks advice, coupled with a 1977 sellout exhibition at Newton Gallery in Adelaide and an extended trip to the United States, introducing him to some of the finest galleries and publishers, Darryl emerged as one of the best floral artists in the world. Raised among the poppies his father grew in Adelaide, he believed flowers were always a natural subject for him. He continued to cultivate his own spectacular poppies, roses and hibiscus both in the garden and on paper.
Beautiful, large petals flow dramatically and abundantly from Darryl's works of art, so enticing, they make you feel as though you can pick them directly off the surface of the paper.

People often comment, "Surely these are not watercolours, they're so colourful." But Darryl was renowned for his reply, "Colour and strength have nothing to do with watercolour. It is how you, as an artist interpret the medium. People tend to categorise watercolour as soft and anaemic, they emphasize the water and not the colour. Water is just a vehicle. When it dries, all you have got is the colour. Besides, watercolour is the perfect medium for flowers. Consider the delicate edges of my flowers; they could never be that paper like in oils," says Trott.

Darryl left a near twenty year advertising career to follow his passion and unmistakable talent to paint. As a result, he has painted from live blooms and gardens across five continents, including hibiscus in Tahiti, roses in England and magnolias in Louisiana. Not as confined as many artists are by language and location, Darryl Trott achieved international recognition adding freshness and style to his already worldwide subject thousands of beautiful flowers.

Artist: John Coburn

1925 - 2006

John CoburnThe art of John Coburn is among the most recognisable in the country. His bold, colourful paintings and tapestries can be seen in galleries, boardrooms and private collections throughout Australia.

Born in 1925 in North Queensland, John Coburn grew up in a world devoid of modern art. But on a trip to Sydney at the age of 13 for a scout jamboree, he was taken to the Art Gallery of NSW, where he fell in love with a painting by Arthur Streeton. From then on, Coburn was determined to become an artist.

There were detours along the way — first with the Navy during WWII, after which he returned to Queensland to work in a bank. But that career was short-lived; Coburn announced to his horrified family that he was going to Sydney to study art.

John Coburn's artLike many of his generation, he learned the fundamentals of drawing and painting, but on graduating in 1950 was unsure of just what to paint. That doubt was erased on seeing an exhibition in 1953, French Painting Today. The work of the great Masters like Matisse, and Leger convinced Coburn that he too could pursue abstraction. Publisher Lou Klepac comments, "...he saw pictures by Matisse and Picasso and that changed his life. He saw through the door of this exhibition the future that he would have as a painter and from there on he became an abstract painter and never looked back."

In the 1950s, John Coburn also converted to Catholicism and, according to critic John McDonald, "All of his work could be seen as broadly religious, although it is never doctrinaire. Even when the paintings grow darker and more meditative ... they still radiate a kind of inner strength and cohesion."

Then, with the building of the Sydney Opera House, Coburn received the biggest commission of his career — two huge tapestries called the 'Curtains of the Sun and Moon'. Woven in Aubusson in France, these paintings are his masterpieces, according to McDonald, who describes them thus, "a red backdrop for day, a blue one for night: dual platforms for a dance of cut-out shapes in beautifully-modulated colours."

John Coburn's artThe great tragedy is that the curtains are rarely seen these days in the Opera House.

The other great tragedy is that John Coburn has yet to see one of the most important exhibitions of his career, as he recently suffered a debilitating stroke. John Coburn: Five Decades is showing at the National Trust SH Ervin Gallery in Sydney until March 21. And a major book on his art — John Coburn: The Spirit of Colour — has just been published by Beagle Press.

Artist: John Maitland

John Maitland was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, and at age 15 was awarded a scholarship to study art at Kings College. John has held many successful exhibitions in Queensland and New South Wales and was a finalist in the “Tribute to Mary McKillop” exhibition. His entry was nominated as one of the finest in the show and was part of a national tour in 1996. Since 1997 his work has been reproduced as prints by a leading British publishing company. One of these pieces was in the final two of the international print competition in Amsterdam in 1998. John now has over 40 works in print worldwide. His work is very expressive and contemporary. People of different cultures is a popular theme and a lot of his works are figurative, reflecting his own awareness of the unique spirituality, grace and unobtrusiveness of the people of various cultures in their landscapes. This is always a great source of inspiration. As well, John has held exhibitions in Bath and London in 2002 and 2003. His work is held in private collections throughout Australia and New Zealand, Asia, the South Pacific, United States and Canada, Europe and the United Kingdom, as well as a number of foreign embassies and the Houses of Parliament at Westminster. His work is also represented in galleries throughout England, Ireland, Europe, USA, Canada, Africa, New Zealand and Australia. He recently held a highly acclaimed exhibition in Grafton Regional Gallery where two of his works were acquired for the Regional Gallery’s permanent collection. John is seen by some as being “one of Australia’s most exciting artists” (John Norris – Director, Prime Arts Publishing UK), while his works have been referred to as “possessing the exquisite line and colour of a Matisse” (Art Director – Lotus Gallery, Gold Coast, Queensland). John’s works and dialogue can be viewed alongside the likes of Picasso and Matisse in an American Scholastic production and his work is also featured in a Canadian print publication.

Artist: Warren Salter

Warren can remember drawing and painting constantly from as early as four years of age. Born with an obvious talent for art, he found his high school days and nights filled with drawing and painting cars and motorbikes and selling them to fellow students for 50c each; then progressing on to painting landscapes for their parents on cardboard and masonite. At college he was taught by renowned artist Geoff Dyer who would take selected students to Interstate National Galleries to view artists like Picasso, Van Gough, Roberts and Streeton, who all had a big influence on Warren’s artistic development. After 25 years in the graphic art and signmaking industry, Warren realised his real love was painting and became a full time artist. An affinity with nature is the fuel for Warren’s inspiration along with a deep love of music. He says the two forms compliment each other and inspire his love of pure colour. After almost ten years of solid exhibiting with up to four and five shows nationally per year, Warren has developed a diverse range of styles on large canvases including still life, figurative, contemporary, abstract and an unmistakable floral style like no other. Much of Warren’s time is dedicated to commissioned works and says such requests are the ultimate compliment to any artist. Artist: Nick Young

My training was in a very formal environment. I studied at Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney, which entailed a through grounding in drawing and painting in a classical manner. This was the perfect environment for the style of painting that fascinated me, classical but contemporary realism. I paint still life because I am deeply attracted to the form and composition apparent in everyday things. The Dutch painters of the 17th century have always been a source of inspiration to me as well as the modern American realists. "I try to interpret a given reality just as it is. I do not paint to try and portray things as an emotional statement but try to portray the quiet emotional structure that shows when someone is seeking the beauty that is available in everyday simple objects'..

The passion and the time devoted to it will make you the best at it, whatever it is, there is always a demand for the best”

Artist: Carmen Hannay

Carmen Hannay

Born in 1978 on the Sunshine Coast and growing up in Buderim, Carmen began to paint and draw at an early age. Drawing inspiration from things seen on family holidays, Carmen and her father would spend hours observing and sketching their surroundings. This fostered a love of art as a way to capture moments greater than what the eye can see.

Carmen went on to study Film at the Queensland College of Art and later Visual Art at the Cooloola Institute of Tafe. Carmen works in a variety of media but has developed a characteristic style with delicate layering of imagery and finely woven line work.  She chooses to paint from life or by using her personal experiences as a starting point. In that way her process is to subtly abstract the initial idea, discovering as she goes, the story in her final work.

Since beginning to exhibit in 2008, Carmen has had work in several group exhibitions and continues to live and develop her practice on the Sunshine Coast.

Artist Statement

The process of completing a piece of art really draws me in. Knowing when to gently keep going, when to push an idea late into the night, when to tear a piece up and hide it under the bed and when to just stop. I always start with an image or a story linked to something I have experienced, though I will usually develop a work on the actual canvas or paper, piecing together all the elements until they hold themselves in balance.

I also work with puppets, so this has had an influence on my visual language and the way I uses line, often stringing together parts of the painting or reflecting connections from one part to another. I love to depict movement and balance and find recently that a combination of watercolour, pencil and acrylic glazes best serve this purpose.

Making art is to me a way of understanding things, in the way poetry can describe perfectly in not so many words. For this reason it continues to be an important part of my life, a constant questioning and an endless source of adventure.

Artist: Tetyana Khytko

Born in the Ukraine, I studied art at the Kiev State Art School.  For as long as I can remember sketches and caricatures were what I loved to do most. Famous Danish cartoonist Herluf Bidstrup influenced me enormously and I still have his book that so inspired me as a child.

After graduation I worked as an architect in Kiev for ten years. When "perestroika" began, I changed my career becoming a computer graphic designer to survive. In 2000 my family and I moved to New Zealand, settling in Wellington, where I continued with graphic design but also started painting again. I began experimenting with different mediums and techniques (gouache, oil, collage in combination with watercolour and acrylic) to break away from the representational, realistic approach.

Along with 2D work, I returned to painting matryoshka (Russian nesting dolls made of wood), I learned to paint at a course of decorating painting in Kiev. Through numerous commissions and experimentation I have developed unique and distinctive "personalised matryoshka" - families painted on the basis of photos. Through this I have found where I can apply my caricature skills and love of portraiture.

Since 2005 I have been painting full-time. I have participated in various group and solo exhibitions in Wellington, becoming a member of Watercolour NZ, WAG and an Elected Artist Member of the Academy of Fine Arts. In Apr 2010 I moved to Australia, settling in Canberra.

My favourite subject is landscapes, a mixture of reality and fantasy that grow out of first impression sketches and caricatures. Colours…I should confess a great love to greens in all their varieties.

Artist: KENDALL

Kendall's description:
"THROWING CAUTION TO THE WIND IN A BLAZE OF COLOUR AND CHARACTER!"

Her inspiration:
"LIFE AND ALL IT HAS TO OFFER!".

Travelling the globe with a style that is highly individualistic, Kendall is taking the art world by storm. Leaving a technicoloured trail that leads all the way back to her home in Buderim on the beautiful Sunshine Coast.

Painting professionally for the past 17 years, Kendall travels the world exhibiting and painting "live on location" for Tourism Australia, the Office of the Australian Consulate General and Department of Foreign Affairs and Austrade. Kendall has previously painted and exhibited in South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Guangzhou, Toronto, Houston Texas, Christchurch, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Shenzhen, China. Kendall entertains guests as she creates one of her masterpieces in a blaze of "colour and character" right before their eyes! But don't stand too close, things can get messy!

The sales of her artworks and extreme art performance style so popular, she is often booked 12 months in advance. In the coming year she will continue to showcase her work in her most popular Asian markets Singapore and Kuala Lumpur and has been approached to exhibit in Dubai, Shanghai, Beijing and Bucharest, with an action plan to take her new "Kendall by Design" homewares range to the four corners of the globe.

From humble beginnings and after being told at school that "no one makes money out of art", Kendall is managing to create a niche in the art world nationally as well as internationally, selling hundreds of paintings a year. Kendall's paintings are housed in public and private collections world wide and Kendall intends to spread her wings even further in the international scene.

Other than her wonderful family, and being able to live her dream of becoming an artist every day of her life, Kendall considers her greatest achievements as: representing her country because of her craft; her Australia Day Award for Culture in 2004; being named Australia's "Goodwill Ambassador to
Seoul " in 2005; being named in the
"Who's Who of Queensland" book for her contribution to the arts in 2007; being the ONLY Australian artist to ever be invited to paint live at the World Cultural Fair in Shenzhen, China (this is an honour normally only bestowed on Chinese national painters), and gracing the cover of the 2009-2010 Sunshine Coast Yellow Pages for her contribution to the arts, culture and philanthropy.

Kendall has always believed that if you can ever help another in need then "you should do so unconditionally", and as a result she has used her art over the years to generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in funds for numerous charities.

When asked why people seem to love her artworks whether they are paintings or homewares Kendall replies:

"I think my works have a 'feel good factor' and people buy then because they make them feel happy and alive!! I absolutely love and am passionate about what I do; I'm always changing and evolving. I have always prided myself in being an innovator not an imitator; I create a quality product at a reasonable price that is always appreciating in value. I like to keep my work diverse so that there is always something for everyone". I NEVER set out to be Rembrandt and I never take myself too seriously!!"

Artist: Anne Middleton

To behold an Anne Middleton painting is an experience that simultaneously delights the senses and engages the intellect. Anne’s exceptional ability to capture the beauty of her chosen subject is coupled with her extraordinary talent with oil paint and brush.

Anne’s notable competence in her chosen medium enables her to render any subject in exquisite detail. She explores her subject matter with scientific precision and transforms these acute observations into fabulous terrains of luxuriouscolour and abounding energy. No detail is left unattended in pursuit of rich, tactile textures and elegant, voluptuous patterning. Interwoven colour and pattern draw the viewer into a sensual world of sumptuous folds and unfurling  curves.

Anne is a dedicated and talented artist whose professional artistic career spans more than twenty years. Anne grew up in a nurturing artistic environment. Throughout her childhood, her father, a renowned Australian landscape artist, comfortably supported Anne and her family with the income he generated from his work.

On completion of her final year at high school, Anne was awarded Dux of the school, a credit given to one individual in honour of most outstanding academic achievement. This award ensured Anne was in a position to pursue any career – she chose art.

Anne began working as a professional artist after completing a Bachelor of Education in Visual Arts from the University of Melbourne. Anne’s distinguished career has been informed by a range of traditional and contemporary styles and techniques.

Anne has travelled extensively in pursuit of developing her craft. Time spent in Italy put her in direct contact with the work of Italian and European Masters. She studied in Italy at Il Laboratario per Affresco di Vainella, Prato, mastering the techniques of Fresco painting. She applies these skills back into her work with oil and canvas.

Anne’s imagery and themes are drawn from natural, historical, literary and personal sources. Her painting is informed by first hand experience visiting and exhibiting in museums and galleries throughout the world, including New York, London, Europe and Asia.

Anne’s images are not mere representations; her iconography transports the viewer into a psychological and sensual drama that is played out on canvas.  Her painting always leaves the viewer with a powerful and lasting impression.
Sarah Edwards

I can so clearly coming into Anne’s studio in Italy and being so shocked. Such excitement: vivid, erotic, precise yet not representational. And such colour and all so drippingly wet.
Neil Curry (Poet and Bogliasco fellow)

Biographical information:

Born in 1967, Anne Middleton grew up in an environment surrounded by art and beauty. Her childhood spent in the forests of the Dandenong Ranges, surrounded by the paintings of artist parents, Max and Elsa, has resulted in Anne’s fascination with painting natural form. Anne’s paintings display a fascination with the rigorous beauty of extreme realism.

Anne has a particular interest in the classical painting techniques of the Baroque and Renaissance periods. In 1995 she studied traditional Fresco and Egg Tempera painting techniques in Italy. Her current paintings utilize traditional oil glazing techniques, which involves the use of many layers of transparent oil paint to build incredible colour intensity and luminosity. In 2004, Anne was the first Australian to be awarded a Fellowship from the prestigious Bogliasco Foundation in Italy.

Anne is also Director of Anne Middleton Gallery. She currently works full-time in her Albert Park studio painting.

Artist: Shannon Garson

Shannon Garson is a ceramicist specialising in thrown, decorated porcelain.

Shannon has developed her unique approach combining draftsmanship with ceramics over the last decade and has become one of Australia's most collectable ceramicists. In 2005 she received a Churchill Fellowship and spent 3 months travelling in Europe studying the art of the medieval and Renaissance periods. Her practice continues to grow with a collection of limited edition tableware and exhibition work developing side by side.

"I want the surface of the pot to be part of the drawing, not just a surface for the drawing to sit on. I want the whole pot to be experienced, from the weight of it as you pick it up, the texture, the drawing, colour, smoothness of the glaze, all the elements draw the viewer into experiencing the vessel."

Shannon's studio is based in a small rural town in the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast. Each piece of porcelain is unique, the result of many hours work. Shannon's pots are finely thrown and translucent. The vessels are decorated with lively drawings and subtle, textured surfaces which provide a canvas for the misty greens, sunset oranges and delicate hues of the drawings.

Artist: Monte Lupo

The Monte Lupo Story

The name Monte Lupo was taken from a small pottery village nestled in the hills of Tuscany called Monte Lupo Forentina.  Monte Lupo has a unique ceramic history that can be seen in the use of bright, exciting colors and design that can still be purchased today. Another attribute of Monte Lupo Forentina was their skill of sharing responsibilities in the production of ceramic wares - many artists contributed to each piece of work, thus utilising the strengths of each and every individual artist.

Here at Monte Lupo, we employ that same ethos of sharing the responsibilities of production. This ensures a high standard of quality and allows the artists to focus on, and refine, their skills. Not all of employees want to pursue the role of artist and this serves to strengthen the Monte Lupo team, due to the many facets of running a ceramic production studio, retail outlet and business services.

 Monte Lupo Services

Multicap is statewide non profit, established in 1962, that provides high needs disability, individual, respite and family support for people with disabilities their families and carers in Queensland.

In 1991 Multicap established the Monte Lupo Disability Enterprise to provide a career path for people with disabilities who wished to be gainfully employed in an area encouraging creativity and artistic expression.  Today Monte Lupo employees over 30 people with a disability and several artists across a number of services

·           Monte Lupo Gallery & Studio - employs 20 people including 10 young artists and provides unique art, giftware and pottery with individual, commissioned, and corporate gifts

·           Monte Lupo Packaging - employs around 10 people providing packaging and repackaging services, mail outs, collating, hand assembly, shrink-wrapping, laminating and more

·           Centre of Creative Arts - program for adults with disabilities who are enthusiastic about working toward becoming professional artists.

With minimal training, our Monte Lupo artists have developed a very distinct, individual, naïve style. The artists are able to express themselves freely through several medium including sculpture, painting, pottery, and screen printing. Monte Lupo staff find this freeness in the artwork visually inspiring and exciting. In these artists, one can truly see the infinite expanse of human expression.

Monte Lupo Packaging provides our employees with a disability the support and training needed to develop industry based competency standards and skills. Our employees are provided with the opportunity to be gainfully employed, in a supported work environment.

The Monte Lupo machine operates through individual commitment to a team effort – Creative Collaboration, collaborating to produce the finished product and all that entails from unloading the clay off of the truck to the selling.  It’s an opportunity for people with disabilities to contribute to a whole, to be a ‘creative cog’ in a machine that wouldn’t operate without them.

Monte Lupo CV of Major Works

Promoting the Monte Lupo artists demonstrates the amazing abilities of people with disabilities and continuing community awareness and appreciation. Our Monte Lupo artists have won a number of awards and have their works on display, with other exhibitions held at various times.

Our employees gain inspiration from personal experience, group workshops, excursions and interacting with customers and clients. Monte Lupo’s collective approach has broken down competition barriers that previously called for single entries.
